Droob Heritage Photo Walk & Cyanotype Workshop

Droob Heritage Photo Walk & Cyanotype Workshop

El-Khalifa · Cairo
Friday, Jun 19 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Description

In Arabic architecture, Droob (the plural of Darb) referred to the main spine of a neighborhood long before the word “street” became common. On this special photo walk, we will explore Darb El Labana and El Khalifa Area—often called the Egyptian Montmartre for its rich artistic heritage and its connection to figures such as Hassan Fathy, Shadi Abdel Salam, and Mohamed Naghi.
Guided by Qahrawya, we will wander through historic alleys, landmarks, and hidden corners of Cairo, uncovering layers of architecture, urban fabric, and cinematic history.
This experience is created in collaboration with Cairo Analog Society and Cyanotype. Participants will be provided with an analog camera and a roll of film to document the walk under the guidance of Shady George.
For the cyanotype workshop, participants are also asked to bring a personal photograph of their choice, which they will transform into a handcrafted deep-blue cyanotype print during a rooftop session overlooking Historic Cairo, led by Youssef Madbouly.
We will be visiting:
- Visual art clusters namely:
• Takeyat Musafer
• Beit Yakan
- Ibn Toloun Mosque
- House of Egyptian Architecture
